![]() LENNY RICCHIUTI FOR ALBANY COMMON COUNCIL PRESIDENTMay 14, 2009, 12:50:00 PM BY Carlos Gonzalez / LENNY4ALBANY.COM (Albany, NY)-Citing excitement for government and advocacy, one based on energetic leadership and results-oriented experience, Lenny Ricchiuti will officially launch his campaign to secure the Democratic nomination for the position of Albany Common Council President. Ricchiuti, a retired member of the Albany Police Department, is best known for being a tireless advocate for the sustainability of youth programs, community enrichment, safer neighborhoods, and for spearheading efforts to bring working families together. Ricchiuti is also the Executive Director of Albany’s Police Athletic League – the largest hands-on youth program citywide, and he serves as President of Albany American Little League located in the South End of Albany. He is married to wife Mary and has two children, Sara and Amy. Joining Lenny Ricchiuti will be Albany residents, grass-roots organizations, the clergy, and community activists all convinced that we need to recognize the positive accomplishments by our Albany Common Council, and assist the administration at incorporating new progressive strategies that will provide opportunity for all. The campaign will commence with a rally on May 14th at 5:00 PM followed by a “Made in Albany – All-Ward Listening Tour,” allowing for community participation and collaboration on ways to make our communities stronger. The tour will cover all 15 Wards throughout the City of Albany. Dates of the tour will be posted on www.Lenny4Albany.com. “Many Albany residents feel they’re unable to afford a place to raise a family, or to find meaningful employment,” said Ricchiuti. “They are anxious about the challenges facing our public schools and their children's education. They remain concerned about drugs, gang violence and the tragic loss of innocent lives. I have spent a lifetime bringing people together for a common cause. I am running because I know how to work on implementing programs that will give refuge to our youth, putting our kids on the right track, ultimately leading to safer streets for all. I am running because I know what it’s like being a homeowner in Albany and I want other homeowners to remain here. I am running to focus on our local economy – especially during this economic calamity - so that jobs remain in Albany. I am running for the sustainability of local businesses – recognizing they’re our partners and they will help lead us out of this recession. Mostly, I am running to promote policies that bridge the gap for the working poor, allowing them to transition to the middle class.” The Albany Common Council represents the residents of the City of Albany as the legislative body responsible for setting the governing policies of New York State's Capital city. It is made up of 15 elected officials, one representing each ward, and is chaired by the Common Council President, who is elected citywide. Primary Day will be held on September 15, 2009.
